| Description | This chapter is devoted to a more general view of the adult offender sentencing system. It presents the characteristics of the system of punishments, defining their types and the interrelationships between them. It also deals with the categorisation of punishments and their arrangement, particularly in the context of the principle of subsidiarity or the economy of criminal repression and the concept of imprisonment as the ultima ratio. It also examines the legal prerequisites for the imposition of selected penalties. The aim of the chapter is to evaluate the existing legislation, identify possible problems and outline possible de lege ferenda solutions. |
