Description Václav Richter and his follower Zdeněk Kudělka (1926-2000) used the terms tectonics and stereotomy in their studies of baroque and modern architecture to such extent that was not usual in Czech art history. This way of thinking can therefore be described as a certain specific contribution of the Brno School to the theory and history of architecture. However, none of them have carried out a major theoretical study on the subject. The aim of my lecture is to use individual examples to show how these terms were used in Brno. It is clear that despite the obvious connection to Gottfried Semper's thinking, his theory of material transformation was not developed in Brno. When Václav Richter spoke of formative spatial principles, he understood the concepts of tectonics and stereotomy more as terms with which the architect's design idea can be understood. On the contrary, Zdeněk Kudělka used these terms for a descriptive analysis of the relationship between internal space and external matter in architecture.
