Description | Substituted N-phenyl amides of 3,4-dichlorocinnamic acid have been the subject of earlier studies. Some derivatives have shown excellent antimicrobial and antimalarial activity. The newly synthesized compounds that are the subject of this study are direct structural analogues differing in phenyl substitution. 40 derivatives with multiple substitution of both electron-donating and electron-accepting groups were synthesized and characterized, and the antimicrobial activity against Gram-positive bacteria of the genus Staphylococcus was determined. Some derivatives shown excellent activity comparable to the clinically used antibiotics ampicillin and ciprofloxacin. |
