Description | The main point of interest is importance of introduction of two-humped camel (Camelus bactrianus) and one-humped camel (Camelus dromedarius) in Assyrian empire. It will be explained which useful specifics both species have and how it could be used in military and military logistic. There will be compared which landscapes were included in Assyrian empire before and after the oldest mentions about camels in Assyrian royal inscriptions and how it could be related with taming of camels. There will be also presented a theory why camels were not popular in Mesopotamia earlier. Special attention will be given to inscription of king Tukulti-Ninurta II who mentions his aim to get herds of camels from east. There will be also discussed inscriptions of Shalmanassar III who was probably the first Assyrian king who fought against camel riders and king Tiglath-Pileser III who was the first who kept one-humped camels. Then it will be discussed why king Ashurbanipal I presumably did not like camels as a riding animals. |
