Description According to the scientific studies, the world’s insect population is in rapid decline. One-third of insect species are threatened with extinction. A similar trend can be observed in the Czech Republic. The main reason is industrial farming, which has changed the habitats in which insects can live, extensive use of pesticides, which have a devastating effect on insect populations, and eutrophication of surface water. The paper will therefore focus on legal regulation of pesticides in the Czech Republic, protection of surface waters against eutrophication and on protection of insect habitats in the agricultural landscape.
