Description Criminalistics is one of the so-called auxiliary sciences of criminal law and is closely connected with it. Knowledge of criminalistics is very important for the proper conduct of criminal proceedings, especially the part concerning evidence. This makes its connection with criminal law obvious. Both law enforcement authorities and other persons with a legal background come into contact with criminalistics very frequently. The problem is that the initial acquaintance with criminalistics often occurs only in the context of practice, as the trend is currently that criminalistics is not often taught as a compulsory subject at Czech Universities, but is usually only a so-called compulsory elective subject. The only exceptions are those study programmes directly focused on criminalistics. The question remains whether such an approach is correct or whether it would be appropriate to include criminalistics among the subjects with which every (future) lawyer should be obligatorily acquainted. In the present article we will also focus on the importance of criminalistics for criminal proceedings and the contribution of knowledge in this field within the not only various legal professions. At the same time, we will not omit the history of teaching criminalistics at law schools. In the conclusion, we present reflections on how to change the current situation and what are the real perspectives of teaching criminalistics at Czech Universities.
