Description | Situated at the intersection of emotion, cognition and language, this paper explores the uses of a sensory perception technique in the writings of the Palestinian writer Adania Shibli and the effect this has both on her works´ protagonists and their readers. Since sensory perception is linked to both emotion and cognition, the paper shows how the two - until fairly recently regarded as independent – modes of relating, enhance one another within the realm of the text and create an effective ´affective´ communication strategy. To this end, the novella entitled Masas (published in English as Touch) and the novel Taf?il thanawi (published in English as Minor Detail) will be discussed. |
