| Description | The process of translating printmaking to other artistic media was very complex and soon became a widespread artistic practice throughout Europe, to which most artists and patrons turned. Prints played a key role in the dissemination of knowledge, political ideas and current fashions or artistic tendencies. Printmaking is also inherently destined to stimulate a variety of responses. The lecture focused on Baroque artistic practice in Bohemia and Moravia in relation to the graphic inspirations used. One emphasis was placed on selected examples of works where, for various reasons, the painters did not strictly followed the printed models. It is these deviations from the original pattern that show how painters worked with printmaking and what approaches they used, thus proving that changes are an important indicator of the intentions of both artists and patrons (including, for example, censorship and self-censorship). |
