Description | The paper analyses Czech reflection on contemporary Russian literature in the last decade. A quantitative and qualitative (content) analysis of Czech published translations of contemporary Russian prose and reviews of these books in Czech periodicals was conducted. Studies of Czech editions since 2007 show that there is a growing interest in contemporary Russian literature. However, its reflection shows a certain one-sidedness based on political circumstances. Most of the translated works are critical depictions of 20th century Russian history and contemporary Russia. Often the political and social attitudes of the authors are emphasized in the evaluation of these works, and artistic criteria recede into the background. The influence of the Russian annexation of Crimea in 2014 is clearly visible in the reflection. On the other hand, works with no overlapping social and political issues receive minimal attention from Czech reviewers. |
