| Description | This chapter focuses on the complex dynamics of fatherhood from behind bars, highlighting the contextual and interpersonal variables that contribute to the diverse experiences of incarcerated fathers (and their children). I will focus on the difficult aspects of performing the fatherhood role as an incarcerated parent, as well as successful practices that yield benefits. I will also attempt to paint a complex picture of what it means to be an incarcerated father, and to show that fathering from prison is a phenomenon distinct from other fathering experiences, and in this sense also offers specific challenges and opportunities. |
