Description | The study presents and publishes a previously unknown source (three letters of credence and a diplomatic instruction preserved as contemporaneous German translation) regarding the Hussite delegation, which at the beginning of September 1421 received a mandate from the Diet of Kutná Hora and was sent with an offer of the Bohemian crown to Duke Vytautas of Lithuania. Interpretation of the source brings about new insights into the diplomacy of Hussite Bohemia from 1420 to 1421 in the context of the dispute between the individual estates and political factions concerning the candidate for the throne of Bohemia. The fragile compromise reached, evident in the content of the diplomatic instruction, did not last long due to the capture of the envoys in Racibórz. |
