| Description | The article presents the latest professional view of the overall development of Buddhism in the Mongolian cultural area with a focus on the development in the 20th century. The article focuses on the political and cultural context, the institutional development of Buddhist education and the issue of the renewal of Buddhist practice after 1990. The article is supplemented by an example study on the development of Buddhism in a selected Mongolian region - the former estate (banner) of Baruun Amban of the Altai Uriankhai ethnic group (today the provinces of Khovd and Bayan-Ölgii). |
