Description | Fantastic, imaginative or postmodern tendency of the Czech prose written in 1990s is characterized by experiments with constructing fictional worlds. The principle of minimal departure, defined by Marie-Laure Ryan, states that readers are reconstructing fictional worlds as close to empirical as possible until a fantastic narrative event occurs. The fantastic element does not have to make the fictional world fully fantastic right away, it can just hybridize it. This paper aims to define the liminal fantastic element and the role of the reader in interpreting it and analyses hybridizing of the fictional world in Avion (1995) written by Jiří Kratochvil. |
