Description The paper aimed to outline the characteristics and historical origin of the leek (Allium porrum), to describe the linguistic development of the names from Old Czech to the present, to explain the etymological interpretation of the Czech names, their dialectal and folk forms and to describe, at least briefly, with the help of examples of old Czech recipes, the ways of using the leek, especially in Old Czech and folk cuisine. The enclosed dialect map completed the knowledge in the field of dialectology.
