| Description | This paper examines numismatic material from Roman Africa - present-day Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia and Libya - from the late Republic, Principate and Dominate periods. A sub- objective of this work is a survey of important personalities, especially emperors and usurpers originating from North Africa, who had their own coins minted with their likenesses. The overview and interpretation can thus contribute to the study of Roman numismatics, Roman economic history and, above all, the history of North Africa. From the surviving coin finds in North African territory, we know that the vast majority were struck in Rome, but we can still find local mints in the area. |
