Description | Computers are now a common part of teachers' lives. However, if we look at their implementation in schools after 1989, we find that it was not a massive introduction of digital technologies. Contemporary (professional) sources provide only sketchy information that points to the fascination with new technologies rather than the real state of affairs. Oral history thus becomes an essential source, even if it also has its limits. Therefore, we will focus both on the actual implementation of computers in schools and on methodological issues of research on this topic. We will show that computers in the first years after the Velvet Revolution, for example, were intended only for school administration and only very slowly made their way into teaching. For some teachers who knew how to use computers, this skill then meant, for example, a "ticket" to school management. In the methodological part we will dwell on the place of computers in the memory of the narrators and how this topic is to some extent specific. This is due to the fact that developments in digital technology have seen a great deal of growth since around 2010 (tablets, social networks). In this paper we develop the previously presented theme and draw on the new book (Post)Socialist Transformation of Primary Schools. Processes, Stories and Challenges in the Czech Republic (Springer, 2024), which summarizes the results of our research supported by the Czech Grants Agency (20-11275S). |
