| Description | Production of animated films at the Kudlov studios in wartime and post -war Zlín (renamed Gottwaldov for the period 1949—1989) are a significant part of the story of the worldwide success of Czech animation. This book is the result of research into the studios as a place of production, creation, labour and social contacts. Different chapters of the book use different methodological approaches to explain: 1) Who were the people entering the professional field of film animation, what their education, skills and goals were, how they learned animated film conventions, and how adopted practices of professional collaboration; 2) what were the material and social conditions of their labour; 3) how these people and their labour were influenced by the fact that it was animation — filmmaking practice highly specific in the competences required, the working rhythms, the ways of collaboration, and the social ties of creative teams. |
