Description This overview lecture will first introduce current general approaches to clinical data processing using artificial intelligence that have the potential to be applied in everyday medical practice. In particular, we will focus on structured data in the form of tables and networks, then on unstructured textual data, but we will also mention overlaps into other modalities (e.g., imaging or histopathology data) in the context of multimodal machine learning. We will then present selected applications of some of these technologies in recently completed or ongoing projects in which people from the Faculty of Informatics of MU and Masaryk Cancer Institute have collaborated with each other and with other international partners. The presented applications will be mainly related to the following open problems in cancer care: prediction of lung cancer recurrence risk, information support for cancer patients, federated learning over data of patients with rare tumors and prediction of secondary malignancies. The talk will conclude with future perspectives, particularly in the context of recently submitted grant proposals or ongoing projects that address automated creation of educational materials for oncology and robust clinical validation of personalized recommender systems for cancer treatment-related information.
