Description The effect of a high bromide intake on the iodide accumulation in the mammary glands of lactating rats was studied. High bromide levels in the organism of lactating dams caused a decrease in the iodide concentration in the mammary glands and also an increase in the iodide excretion through the kidney. The decrease in the iodide transfer to the young through the mother milk and/or an increase in the bromide concentration in the milk caused a decrease in the body weight of the young, and affected their thyroids.
