Description Synovial cysts of the lumbar spine as the cause of radicular pain are diagnosed very rarely. As compared with prolapse of an intervertebral disc or tumour which are common etiological factors of lumboischialgias, references in the literature amount only to tens of cases. The etiology of their development is not quite clear. However the possible role of injury of the spine and degeneration of the spondylogenic ligamentous apparatus is considered. A coincidence with rheumatic connective tissue diseases was observed, these are also more frequent in spondylolistheses. lay the submitted case-history the authors wanted to contribute to the literature on this rare clinical pathological entity and remind that it is an integral part of the differential diagnostic, reflections concerning causes of lumboischialgias
