| Description | This report deals with the attitude of the state to the foreigners in the late 18th and in the first half of the 19th centuries. In the 60s and 70s of the 18th century immigration was considered beneficial; similarly to its neighbour countries, Austria tried to tempt foreigners to emigration, particularly the wanted specialists, but also simple paupers willing to inhabit inhospitable or dangerous quarters. This attitude was radically changed with the outbreak of the French revolution. Suddenly, Austria is confronted with a wave of immigrants bringing dangerous ideas of the revolution. On the basis of the change of the laws as well as on particular cases the article shows the position of foreigners in Moravia in the period under consideration. |
