Description | Primary and secondary preventive measures significant decrease risk of stroke. Hypertension is major cause of stroke. Modest systolic and diastolic blood pressure lowering resulted in a 42% reduction of stroke incidence. There is no reliable evidence that indicates substantive differences in efficacy between five standard drug classes used in hypertension treatment. The most important feature in stroke prevention is absolute blood pressure reduction. Additional preventive measures include treating dyslipidaemia and diabetes, antiplatelet agents, anticoagulants, smoking cessation, carotid endarterectomy and endovascular procedures. |
