Description Early signs of increased sympathetic and decreased parasympathetic activity in hypertension were analysed by determination of interrelationship between baroreflex sensitivity, heart rate and blood pressure variability in young borderline hypertensives and healthy controls. Hypertensives had high variability in systolic blood pressure and low baroreflex sensitivity.
