Description | Average operative time was 2hrs, time on recipietn was 1hr30min. Thigh extensor function was excellent from first post-operative day. Sensory nerve function was restore di all 32 rats between weeks 4-6 post-operatively. Sensitivit of the plantar area of the foot was achieved in all 32 rats, sensitivity of the dorsal retion in 28 out of 32animals. Function of the muscles innervated by sciatic nerve was restored from week 6-8.Twenti five animals revealed an excellent function of the transplanted limb with normal gait on on the plantar sufrace of the foot. Five animals walked either on the medial surface of the foot or on the curled toes due to insufficient dorsal flexion of the foot. |
