Description | My model of school culture development is based on the analysis of research reports or information on studies in school culture as published in the last ten years or so. The analysis of the studies was instigated by the question of how researchers construct the subject of their research, namely school culture. In turned out that two ways of cunstructing school culture can be identified: school culture is either seen through ideas about school the school has its culture, or is constructed upon contemplations on culture the school as culture. My model of school culture development combines both options, pointing out that school culture development must take into consideration both the ideas about the school as a whole (including its specific way of life) and the typical characteristics of its operation (activities, shared meanings and values, ideas and constructs). The model can be characterized as cyclic, with the following phases: diagnosis and reflection of the actual situation, planning, implementation and institutionalization, and evaluation. |
