Description When in 1989 the foundations of the Globe were uncovered, a process began towards preserving it as a heritage site of both national and worldwide significance. Since then Shakespeares home stage has been restored to its original shape and a number of replicas have sprung up all over the world, creating a new wave of a popular interest in the Bard. This talk will explore the process of rebuilding the Globe as well as its present role. It will debate the extent to which the Globe revival functions as a cultural monument and a tourist attraction and how successful it is in its ambition to serve as a contemporary theatre venue which wants to build bridges between the past and present and among cultures.
