Citation
Description Vladimír Holan (born in 1905), together with Vítězslav Nezval (1900-1958), Jaroslav Seifert (1901-1986) and František Halas (1901-1949), belongs to the first generation of the great Czech poets of the 20th century. The Centre of Czech Studies (Centre dÉtudes tcheques) of the lUniversité libre de Bruxelles and the Centre of Interdisciplinary Research of Central Europe (Centre Interdisciplinaire de Recherches Centre-Européennes, CIRCE) of the university Sorbonne-Paris IV organize together two conferences devoted to the poetic works of Vladimír Holan which are renowned as dark. The first encounter (the 25th 26th November 2005, ULB), Vladimír Holan and his generation, will situate the specific course of his works that differed from those of his friends indulging in hedonistic and social modernity. The second meeting (the 17th 18th February 2006, Paris-IV), Poetic Word and Philosophical Sentence will question Holans proximity with the most speculative aspects of the logos, and the potential affinities with contemporary poetic works which, as in the case of Holan, oscillate between the conceptual and the instantaneous seizure.
