| Description | For the study of the relationship between the state and religion in case of Buryat Buddhism in Russia it is necessary to look into the history of the tsarist, soviet and recent post-soviet Russia as well as it is suitable to compare the situation in neighboring regions, where the Tibetan variant of Buddhism has deeper traditions, particularly with Inner Mongolia and Tibet. The whole matter can be studied from the point of legal history, but on the other hand attention should also be paid to stories of common people and religious institutions. On the background of such stories, the complex problem of the relationship between the Russian state and minority Buryat Buddhism can be revealed. The aim of this study is to point out mainly to the development of the institution of the head of Buryat ecclesiastical structure and sangha (church), i.e. bandido khambolama, and to deal with the role of the institution of recognized incarnations in Buryatia. |
