Description | Biooxidation of elemental sulfur plays an important role in biohydrometallurgy and spontaneous biogeochemical processes in sulfide deposits (sulfide wastes, abandoned ore mines). The purpose of this study was to investigate a correlation among growth conditions, physiological factors and selected kinetic constants of elemental sulfur oxidation by Acidithiobacillus ferrooxidans. The values of maximum sulfur oxidation rate (v) and growth yield on sulfur (Y) were determined from data obtained in 73 batch cultures. The changes of the apparent Michaelis constant for sulfur (Km) were investigated in resting cells. |
