Description | During the First Republic Brno was the second city after Prague - both in terms of its population (1921: 210 000, 1937: 300 000), and also in importance, as it was the capital city of the Moravia/Silesia Province. The highest body of the city self-government was assembly of the City of Brno (90 members) and his head - the Mayor of the City of Brno. Sturdiest party has been the Czechoslovak socialist Party, which engaged constantly authority of Mayor. Executive body of the assembly in the field of independent competency was council of the City, which consist of 30 members, including the Mayor, Deputy Mayors and other councillors. |
