Description | MIRROR AS A GATEWAY INTO JEAN COCTEAU DREAMSCAPES (based on three reiterations of the Orpheus myth) Jean Cocteau s oeuvre includes three works of art which are deemed essential for the understanding of his poetics: the 1926 staged drama Orpheus, the 1949 motion picture Orpheus and the 1960 film Testament of Orpheus. Each of the three works transposes important events in the poet s life, his artistic creed and poetic imagination into an idiosyncratic and enigmatic reality hidden behind the mirror. Both the motifs involved and the central orphic myth follow a remarkable development. |
