Description | Mediastinoscopy is a routine invasive surgery examination of the mediastinum. It is a gold standard for the diagnostic of the mediastinal lymph-node patology in spite of the existence new modern diagnostic imaging method ( CT,PET, NMR, PET-CT). Mediastinoscopy is mostly used for the diagnostic of the N-staging NSCLC (non-small cell lung cancer). This examination is indicated for the biopsy of the mediastinal tumor or the other nonpulmonary mediastinal lyph-node pathology too. The note describe history, modality and complication of this method. The diagnostic of the N-staging NSCLC by using mediastinoscopy is thrashed out. The recovery factor of the imaging methods is also in detail commented. The note regards the recommendation of the ESTS – European Society of Thoracic Surgeons. |
