Description | Models for coding of odor intensity, especially the concentration and flux detectors and their variants, are investigated. The essential stage is focused: the input-output relation, realized as a number (portion) of bound receptors in dependence on the signal level, concentration of odorant molecules in perireceptor (or external) space. Models assume that the signal should be determined from the number (portion) of receptor-ligand complexes, where the dependence on signal is realized through the input-output function (usually the logistic function). How the number of complexes can code the intensity of stimulation is analyzed using the statistical properties of the steady-state responses. |
