| Description | This contribution initially is adressing the literary works of Martin Walser's first creative period, followed by an analysis of Walsers' journalist writings dealing with Germany's national socialist past. Then the 90ies of the 20th century will come into focus: In this decade Walser was discussing the notions of Vergangenheit and Nation not only in his novels, but also in his other writings (essays, articles, etc.). In this context the speech he made after having been awarded the Peace Prize of the German Book Trade in 1998 will be analysed as an event of major significance. |
