Description Between November 2004 and April 2006 a total of 100 patients with atopic dermatitis (aged between 16-70 years, 26 men, 74 women) were investigated with atopy patch tests (APT). In 32 patients (32%) APT were positive, in 68 patients (68%) negative. The most frequent allergens were the house dust mite allergens (13%), the second grass pollen allergens (12%) and third were dog allergens (10%). The correlation of the results with the history of AD flares after the contact with airborn allergens was higher in APT (65%) than in specific IgE (46%). The identification of airborn allergens as triggering factors of AD is important for prevention as well as for specific immunotherapy.
