Description Lecture was presented in the course of suture nurse meeting in Brno 2005. Presentation explains the indication and technic of VATS. Video-Assisted Thoracoscopic Surgery (VATS), the modern surgical procedure is diagnostic and therapeutic methods. There is indicaited most often for the diagnostic and care of the pleural exudation (idiopathic, inflammatory or malign etiology). The next indication is the pulmonary biopsy, pulmonary anatomical and extranatomical resection, mediastinal lymph-node extirpation. The other less frequent indication are thoracic sympathectomy, resection of the cyst, reparation of the esophageal injury. The resection of the benign esophageal tumors or total esophageal resection for the neoplasm durin VATS approach is possible too. Thymectomy or VATS extirpation of the mediastinal tumor is used too. The spinal surgeons used this approache for the spinal surgery for vertebral injury or tumor also.
