Description Although the foundations of genetics were laid in our country, the scientific era of genetics here began only after 1960. Until this year either genetics research or teaching genetics were due to the politics reasons as good as zero. Understandably, this was reflected in total lack of skilled teachers in schools of all grades, who would be glad to teach genetics eruditely. Consequently, students grew up without understanding genetics or with little knowledge of it. This thesis shows the data obtained by probing in chosen sample of elementary schools students. The aim is to answer the question how genetics is taught today and if still exists the handicap in teachers training and education in this important research field.
