Description Volvulus of the stomach is a situation when stomach is rotated abnormally around its lenghtwise or traverse axis what is clinicaly manifested by acute or chronic symptoms depending on the degree of rotation. Acute volvulus of the stomach is an abdominal emergency, urgent surgery is neccesary and postoperative mortality high. Chronic volvulus of the stomach is rarely recognised and its incidence and prevalence in population is not known. This disease appears in an isolated form or joined to paraesophageal hiatal hernia when dislocation the whole stomac into thoracic cage can appear (upside-down stomach). Symptoms of the chronic volvulus of the stomach varied and biliary or peptic ulcer can be erroneously diagnosed. Diagnosis of the chronic gastric volvulus is difficult and most important diagnostic method is contrast X-ray. Because the volvulus is a morphological change of the stomach then surgery is able to remove the symptoms in most patients.
