Description | The goal of this paper is to find an answer to the question how three selected left-wing, definitely anti-Catholic newspapers (the socialist Moravské slovo, the social democratic Večerník Práva lidu, the communist Rudé právo) presented Catholicism at the time of the culminating Marmaggi affair and what sort of solutions of the crisis they offered. On the whole, the analyzed left-wing newspapers definitely reduced Catholicism to its political dimension, they described the Catholic Church as a certain social and national threat. Analytical shallowness and ideological superficiality are typical for these left-wing newspapers, as well as historism that was significant especially for the reform socialist ones. While Moravské slovo and Večerník Práva lidu proceeded defensively considering the complexity of the disestablishment with regard to the Peoples Party as their coalition partner, Rudé právo misused the coalition problems of the reform socialist parties for attacks against them. |
