Description The 24-hour ambulatory monitoring of blood pressure (ABPM) provides more data on the examined subject than casual blood pressure measurement. It correlate better with target organ damage in hypertension and overal cardiovascular risk. The following computerized data are obtained: mean daytime, night-time and 24-hour values of systolic, diastolic mean and pulse blood pressure. ABPM detect blood pressure variation, morning elevation and circadian blood pressure fluctuation, divided subjects into dippers and non-dippers. It is helpfull in the diagnosis of white coat and masked hypertension which may be difficult to establish by casual blood pressure measurement. It is also used to monitor the effect of therapy troughout 24 hours.
