Description The text focuses on assessment centers and their effectiveness in the area of human resource management. The author defines the assessment center method and describes factors, which increase the validity of the method. Several types of assessment centers are demonstrated with case studies. The author evaluates the types of assessment centers in relation to their purposes. The evaluation shows that the situational approach to evaluation is only appropriate in selection assessment centers with a large number of candidates. The feature-based approach based on assessing competencies (dimensions) in combination with quantitative rating is considered to be the most appropriate method when staffing important positions as well as in diagnostic assessment centers.
