Description The paper deals with the field of environmental psychology, lately represented by so called Conservation psychology, whose concepts are not yet widely spread in the Czech republic. The study is coming from a proposition that psychology as a scientific discipline has a significant potential to contribute to solving the global problem of unsustainability. From the position of Conservation psychology, which is trying to find ways how to encourage environment friendly behaviour, the paper deals with some components of children self in relation to nature. A development of the human-nature relationship research in psychology is briefly outlined. Two hypotheses predicting distinctions between children regularly taking part in a scout group activities and children who are not participating in such activities are verified. The paper uses comparative data gathered in the Human disaffection to the nature research conducted in 2004-2005 (National research programme: Inhabited areas and landscape for future, Ministry of Environment, id. no. IC/4/40/04). The results support the hypotheses. Disctinctions in emotional reaction and amount of experinece in the nature were found with the children from the scout groups. Scouts appear to have more experience in activities developing skills for nature sojourning, they more frequently come into contact with wildlings and participate in environmental educational activities. The paper discusses ways how can a scout group develop children-nature relationship and highlights some limitations of such approach.
