Description The prognosis of diabetic patients with acute coronary syndrome (ACS) is worsened by presence of other risk factors associated in metabolic syndrome, such as hypertension, obesity and dyslipidaemia. Cardiac rehabilitation (CR) programs in patients with type 2 DM require a specific approach taking into account low cardiovascular adaptation during exercise, resulting from left ventricular dysfunction, cardiac autonomic neuropathy and insulin resistance. However, several studies have presented similar benefit of CR in patients with type 2 DM after ACS compared to non-diabetic individuals concerning exercise capacity. It is emphasized the complex approach to cardiac rehabilitation including management of diet and smoking cessation, blood pressure and lipid control.
