Description | The Financial Guard originated by integrating the Frontier Guard with so called the Revenue Guard into uniformed, military organized corps in the year 1843 to protect the customs frontier. The Frontier Guard watched the customs frontier, and the Revenue Guard was in charge of the supervision of the state monopolies and indirect taxation inland. However, both services imposed different requirements on their personnel. A better and higher education was needed for the inland service, a physical strength and fitness was essential on frontiers ( borders). These quite different requirements caused that the unified guards split again in two separate corps after formation of the independent Czechoslovakia between years 1919 and 1920. The reestablished Frontier Financial Guard retained its military character but the inland Revenue Control missed again this character. |
