Description A case of patient referred as Quincke oedema is presented. Clinical symptoms however raised suspicion of superior vena cava syndrome. This suspicion was confirmed by chest X-ray. The patient was then referred to the pulmonary clinic where small-cell cancer of the upper lobe of the right lung was diagnosed. Despite several cycles of chemoterapy the patient died within one year. Physicians must be aware of superior vena cava syndrome in cases of (sudden) swelling of the face and neck especially if it is combined with the dilatation of the veins on the neck and collateral circulation on the trunk.
