Description | Internet traffic analysis based on flow measurement has become widespread, especially, in the form of CISCO NetFlow. Since the initial NetFlow v5 export format until latest RFC standard - IPFIX - the effort has been made to increase flexibility in terms of flexible aggregation scheme and number of measurable characteristics. Despite the best effort it is hard to cover all traffic characteristics (e.g., temporal dispersion of packets in a flow) which might be vital for applications such as quality of service measurement or early application identification. Our research is focused on the development of an accelerated tool capable of collecting arbitrary traffic characteristics on a multi-gigabit link. The tool is based on a synergy of host computer and an FPGA network card (Field Programmable Gate Array). |
