Plasma cell phenotype in multiple myeloma

| Description | Multicolor flow cytometry is widely used in analysis of haematologic malignancies, but not so often in monoclonal gammopathies. Markers associated with malignat plasma cells (PCs) are known, but only limited information about their relation to prognosis is available. Detailed analysis of PCs phenotype in multiple myeloma (MM) patients can bring new information about prognostic impact of some markers. In this work expression of CD19, CD20, CD27, CD28, CD56 and CD117 was analysed on CD38+CD138+ PCs from bone marrow of 112 newly diagnosed MM patients. Majority of plasma cells in newly diagnosed MM patients are CD19-CD56+ PCs. Detailed analysis of PCs showed differences in phenotype what is in accordance with heterogeneity of MM. Analysis of PCs phenotype and further follow-up of patients would confirm some of markers as a parameter with predictive value for progression. |
