| Description | This paper focuses on the problematic status and inventory of numerical prefixes in Spanish. Even though the majority of linguists consider these Latin and Greek elements as derivational morphemes, some authors see them (using relatively subjective semantic criteria) as constituents of compound words. The second problem concerns the inaccurate information on this type of prefixes in different grammars and studies on word formation (i.e., often incomplete inventory of numerical prefixes; errors or omissions in semantic values of some elements, e.g. mega-). |
