Description | The chapter presents preliminary results of research carried out as a joint venture of the co-authors. Its focus lies on analysing verbal communication in ELT classrooms. In the framework of the CPV Video Study of English, the aim of which is to document and analyse the processes of teaching and learning as they take place in every-day English classrooms, a randomised sample of English lessons taught at Czech lower-secondary schools was collected. In this chapter, the authors look at a particular ELT teacher's performance in class from the linguistic point of view, commenting on the linguistic means used within one teaching period. The analyses include Czech versus English spoken and Teacher Talking Time versus Student Talking Time. |
