Description | Medieval festivals, their laughter, joy and plays were strongly experienced both by their participants and viewers. Thus they could not but pervade arts, including literature. Our contribution is focused on the manifestations of happy events and festivals depicted in songs of the Manuscrit de Bayeux. Songs were collected in a manuscript form per order of Charles de Bourbon in 1515. However, the origin of the songs itself is much older. The topics of the songs are various and this fact is, among others, regarded as a crucial feature of the collection: apart from joyful and complainant love songs, there are also bacchic, satirical, mischievous and drinking songs |
